Aim: How are the major symbols in Macbeth used to create allusions and connections?
We picked off where we left off yesterday. We had a class discussion of where we can find symbols and messages through dreams. An example of messages through dreams that we talked about in class is Falling in a dream, which means you are guilty of something
After the symbol talk, we drew a tree
(I was going down to get my wallet,so I didn’t draw a tree,so here’s Jonathan’s :))
This activity was to show us that different backgrounds and experiences can influence our interpretation of Trees.Such as our Trees!
Most Class’s trees are either American Sugargum,Pine or Leafless. But someone in a different state or different country would have a different idea for a tree.
After we drew our trees we learned about some vocab words we will find and use throughout our reading of Macbeth.
Vocab:
After we learned and revisited some Vocab words, our class moved on to pair/share questions
Pair/Share Questions-
Examples of Allusions in Macbeth-
Act 1 scene 2- Allusion to Ireland and Irish Soldiers
Act 1 scene 2- There is a Biblical Allusion to the crucifixion of jesus christ
Act 1 scene 7-The soliloquy has an Biblical Allusion to angels
Act 1- Allusion to hemlock
Act 1- Allusion to the garden of eden and the devil
Why are allusions-
Allusions are indirect references that help us to understand the context within the story and the time period of when the writing was written.
Why choose allusion over explicit statements
Allusions can help authors to get their ideas to the readers without telling them.
Example of symbolism in Macbeth:
After going through the pair/share questions we were able to go through the table of symbolisms used in Macbeth
