Blogger #1 - Arham Bajwa - Period 3 - 12/13/2021



Kahoot:

Today we had started off class with a reading check quiz. It was on Kahoot and had 25 questions.



It tested us on acts i-vi, for example, it asked about specific quotes or moments in the text. It asked who did/say something or details about the characters. It also asked about literary devices we learned about this year. Some examples of this are

Antithesis: A position where the author puts 2 contradicting statements side-by-side

Foreshadowing: The author hints at certain events that will happen later in the story.


Paradox: A ridiculous/self-contradictory statement that may not seem true but can be found true.

Aside: A statement made by a character that is meant to be heard by the audience, not other characters.

Soliloquy: A monologue (most times found in a play), said by a character who is alone or thinks they are alone that reveals their thoughts/feelings

Simplified: When a character reveals their inner thoughts.






Lesson:


After this, we had continued the lesson from Friday “6 Studs Mac Act I, vii”

On Friday we did the first 2 slides. It included the aim which was...

Aim:

How is the motif of promises highlighted through the use of imagery?

Then we did the do now and discussed character types.

Close Reading:


After the Kahoot, we started off slide 3 which was to read the final scene of act 1, scene vii. We had decided to read aloud as a class as different students play different characters.







The scene illustrates Macbeth’s hesitation in killing Duncan. He fears the consequences of killing Duncan. This also goes to demonstrate his kinder side as he ponders on how a benevolent and kind ruler Duncan was. He also thinks it’s his responsibility as the host and kinsman to protect him. Then Lady Macbeth comes in telling Macbeth that the King is dining. When Lady Macbeth finds out about Macbeth’s wavering courage she is furious. She insults him saying if he was even a man and how he’s going back on his word after being so confident. She then sways him over giving him the plan of Ducan’s death as they will make the guards drunk and kill Duncan with their daggers and put the blame on them. Now with courage rehabilitated they both agree to set forth with the murder.

From this scene, I inferred that the author is giving a hint of how Lady Macbeth will play a somewhat antagonistic role as she is swaying Macbeth towards evil.

Movie;

After this, we went to slide 4 which was to watch the movie rendition of this scene (28:50-36:09). It helped convey how serious Lady Macbeth was compared to Macbeth. It also helped convey how Lady Macbeth defies the roles of females back in her time as she is much more intense and isn’t what you’d depict as a woman having more masculine qualities. She makes Macbeth look more feminine due to his hesitation.




Groupwork:

We then moved forward to slide 5 which was to close read and annotate Macbeth’s 2nd soliloquy. Sean read the soliloquy and as a group, we annotated and tried to find the meaning within the text. Together as a group, we had decided that the text meant how Macbeth would do the deed if there weren’t any consequences or risks. Then he starts to think to himself and thought how the senseless violence is something he wasn’t sure he could do. He was the protector of the king along with his host. He thought of how much of a great leader he was and his death would be a tragedy and it would all happen due to his ambition which may end up in disaster. After this, we had run out of time and will review slide 5 tomorrow and finish up the lesson.

Reflection:

This was a reliably short lesson due to the Kahoot, but despite this, there was still a lot to take away. It helped give further insight and show the relevance of literary devices. It also showed us the roles of men and women at this time and how in certain situations masculinity and feminism can be switched. It gave further insight into our characters specifically of the Kind side of Macbeth and the sinister side of Lady Macbeth
