Today we started off class logging onto Nearpod, We started off from where we left off on Friday and it was the first excerpt from “The Birthday Party.” This story is a short story made by Katharine Brush in 1946. This is the link to the story if you want to refer back to it:

We read the first 3 sentences for the first excerpt which gave general information and introductions towards the characters for example they described how they looked. Then, we proceed to take 2 multiple-choice questions based on the excerpt. The next excerpt we looked at gave a new perspective but also sets up the plot of the short story. Next excerpt the plot develops as it shows the wife’s pride and introduces the cake. The story progresses in the next excerpt as we find out the Husband didn’t like the surprise and was embarrassed. In the final excerpt, we read how the husband insults or scolds his wife and she ends up crying. They also started off the story talking about the woman’s hat and also ended off talking about it. We were going to do group work but due to the time we didn’t have time to do it. Overall I learned about how a story can progress part by part and furthered my annotating skills and this is what happened on 09/20/2021.
This is Katharine Brush the Author of this Short Story
