Aim - how does the author’s use of setting demonstrate issues in the U.S. justice system?

Do now - Imagine that you’re in a room that is 98 degrees with 11 other people, you have no a/c, you’re hungry, and you can’t leave until you all agree. What are your feelings and thoughts?

Answers for do now:

  • A humorous answer given was that he was just going to die of a heat stroke.

  • The general answer given by many was that people are just going to vote on what other people vote because they just want to get out of there.

  • Someone said this is related to jury duty because a lot of people are just going to make a fast decision that might not be a good decision but they just want to leave.

Collaborative Efforts

shift seats so that there are 6 on each side, facing each other
Major roles - 12 jurors (juror 1 is foreman)
Minor roles - guard, offstage voices - judges and clerk.

  • We then proceed to move the seats to the order directed above and started to read 12 angry men.

  • The students playing the roles were to told to replicate the play, including the movements.

  • The 12 angry man starts out with the juror’s complaining that they have so many things happening in their life that they just want to get over this.

  • The situation of a kid killing his father with a knife was explained to the jurors.

  • The jurors then wanted everyone to vote to guilty so they can get this over with. *everyone voted except juror number 8

  • The other jurors did not have sufficient evidence to prove guilt. End of reading on page 19

A Near pod vote on if the defendant was guilty or not

End of class.

Reflection
Today I learned about decision making and how you should make decisions under certain environments, this was demonstrated through the do now and the reading in 12 angry men. The reason for learning decision making was because decisions are what lead one into failure or success, each decision can either have a positive impact or negative impact. I would use what I learned in everyday life, decisions are made every second and the right decisions would lead me to become a better me.
